Gynecologic Cancer
The gynecologic cancer team boasts the top level of treatment and most extensive experience with treatment and surgery in non-Seoul regions in South Korea, providing specialized diagnosis, treatment, and management regarding cancer and precancerous lesions on internal and external reproductive organ of women.
The center diagnoses and treats cervical cancer, which is the most prevalent type of gynecologic cancer among Korean women, ovarian cancer, which is difficult to diagnose and treat, and endometrial cancer, which is rising in prevalence recently, as well as vaginal and pudendum cancer.
The most active hospital in non-Metropolitan regions providing gynecologic cancer surgery
Currently, DSMC performs about 250 cases of gynecologic cancer surgery per year, which is not only the highest figure in the non-Metropolitan regions in South Korea and among the top across the country.
Such extensive experience in surgery and treatment also serves as a foundation for optimal treatment for our patients.
Laparoscopy for gynecologic cancer
Since 2000, before other hospitals, DSMC has been applying laparoscopic surgery for cervical, endometrial, and early-stage ovarian cancer, and, recently, robotic surgery to various types of gynecologic cancer surgery as it ensures precision based on a magnified view of the surgical site.
Also, our gynecologic cancer team has been successfully providing single-site robotic surgery, which is performed by creating a hole in the abdomen and can be applied to cervical and endometrial cancer. It provides the advantages such as reduced pain, none to very little scar after operation, and fast recovery.
Close collaboration among the specialists
For organic collaboration for diagnosis and treatment, a meeting is held every Tuesday among the professors of radiology, radiation oncology, pathology, hemato-oncology, nuclear medicine, and gynecologic cancer, who share their opinions on the treatment method and makes treatment plan together.
Thanks to this system, DSMC boasts excellent survival rates among gynecologic cancer patients.
One Stop System
From Monday to Friday, the professor of gynecologic cancer performs morning and afternoon treatments, as part of the hospital's 'one-stop system' through which patients can receive diagnosis, be hospitalized, and start treatment on the same day.
Patient-centered treatment
From their first visit to the hospital, patients often have questions and difficulties regarding treatment and hospital procedures.
The gynecologic cancer team includes a specialized nurse who provides consultation and acts as a bridge between the medical staff and patients, as well as provide continuous and systematic followup through phone calls even after the patients are discharged.
Up-to-date technology
The center strives to exchange information and latest research on gynecologic cancer with foreign cancer centers and actively participates in multinational, multi-center clinical trials to actively adopt new treatment methods.
