Hematomas
The hematomas team (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Center) at DSMC work closely together to provide optimal medical services.
Stem cell transplantation is an important treatment method for hematomas, especially for high-risk hematomas and recurrent/refractory hematomas. DSMC Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Center was certified by Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service in December 2010 as a qualified medical institution for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and, since January 2011 when the hospital successfully performed the first procedure, has been actively providing homograft and autograft treatments. In December 2011, it successfully performed umbilicus blood plantation, which is avoided by most hospitals due to difficulty with application to adult patients.
DSMC's Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Center consists of staff from hemato-oncology, pediatrics, laboratory medicine, pathology, radiation oncology, stem cell transplantation coordinator, sterile ward nurse, social worker, and medical laboratory technician, who work together closely to ensure smooth transplantation procedure. As a result, it takes into account the physical, emotional, and even social challenges of the patients and their families while providing the comprehensive treatment.
Prof. Doh Youngrok of Division of Hemato-Oncology, has received training and gained clinical experiences at Duke University, US, and Keio University, Japan, and discusses the relevant transplantation centers in the two countries while preparing for transplantation.
The sterile ward offers 4 beds – two single-bed rooms and 1 two-bed room – and HEPA (high efficiency particulate air filter) was installed to provide optimal environment for the patients.
In addition, the center is equipped with optimal cell processing system including the stem cell collection room and cell processing and freezing facility.
The transplantation center nurses provide systematic nursing and care so that the patients can receive optimal treatment, while the hematopoietic transplantation coordinator provides customized 1:1 education and consultation regarding the procedure and relevant management.
