Instructions

Welcome to DSMC Health Promotion Center: DSMC Health Promotion Center provides early diagnosis, treatment, continuous management, and overall health assessment for the patients.

Medical history

Please consult with our staff if you have a history of medical procedures or surgeries(eg. heart, cerebrovascular stent insertion, etc.) within the last 1 year. Some tests may be limited depending on your medical history.(Gastroscopy, colonoscopy, prostate USG, etc.)

Fasting

Avoid alcohol, meat, greasy food from 2 ~ 3 days before the examination, eat a light meal for dinner no later than 7pm the day before your examination. Start fasting (including water, tobacco, chewing gum, candy) from 10pm.
If you have colonoscopy please refer to the provided instruction for detailed instruction.
If you have delayed examinations such as gastroscopy or colonoscopy, you will still need to fast.

Stool test

Take the stool sample the day before or on the day of the examination. (However, if colonoscopy is scheduled, collect the sample before taking the bowel-clearing laxatives).
Use the spoon on the stool sample container (on the orange lid), and collect about 5g (bean size).

If you are on medication

If you are currently on medication, please make sure inform the name of the medication to our staff when you make your appointment.
Hypertension and anticonvulsants : You may take the medication at 6:00 am with a small amount of water. However, do not take diabetes medication.
Diabetes : If you are taking diabetes medication or insulin, stop your medication and injection as you start fasting.
Antithrombotic drugs(antiplatelet, anticoagulants) : These medications may interfere with hemostasis during endoscopic biopsy or polypectomy procedures. Therefore, make sure to consult your doctor and stop taking the medication seven days prior to the date of your scheduled examination. (However, if medication is necessary for proper treatment, continue the medication and inform the doctor on the day of the examination.)

Anticoagulant agents : aspirin, coumadin, warfarin, ticlopidine, clopidogrel, dipyridamol, and etc.

If you experience frequent hypoglycemia, consult with your doctor or our staff.
If you are to receive CT scans that use contrast agents, in order to prevent damage to kidney function, you should consult with your doctor and stop the medication that contains metformin (Glucophage, Glupa, etc.) 48 hours before the examination, day of the examination and 48 hours after the examination(total of 5 days).

For women patients

It is best to receive screenings 5 days after the period. You may receive examination during the period but cervical cancer, HPV test, stool test, urine tests results may not be accurate. You can request to delay effected examinations and return(until the end of the year) for the tests.
It is crucial to check if you are pregnant, prior to the examination. In order to avoid radiation-related risks to the fetus and to use correct pre-treatment medicine for endoscopy and get accurate results, make sure to consult with the medical staff before the examination.(Unavailable for pregnant women: UGI, mammography, chest X-ray, bone densitometry, endoscopy with sedation, CT, MRI, sedation, gynecologic tests, BMI test)
If you are breastfeeding, you must stop for 24 ~ 48 hours after endoscopy procedures with sedation. Also, please inform the staff in advance as breast screening results may be inaccurate.
Colonoscopy cannot be performed for patients with a history of C-section within the last year.
For cervical cancer screenings, avoid sexual intercourse and vaginal cleansing 24-48 hours and stop using vaginal tab or cream 1 week prior to the screenings. If you have weak cervical tissues or inflammation, you may experience slight bleeding(spotting) after the examination.

Contact lenses (soft & hard)

Contact lenses are not allowed as it may interfere with the optical examination. You may wear your glasses.

Preparation colonoscopy

For colonoscopy, your colon must be thoroughly cleansed. Make sure to follow the provided guidelines to prepare for the examination.

Endoscopy with sedation

After an endoscopic procedure with conscious sedation, you will need to be fully rested before returning home.
Due to anterograde amnesia, which is one of the effects of sedation, you may not remember the events during the effect of the medication. You are recommended to bring a guardian to accompany you when returning home.
Do not drive or schedule any important events or meetings, etc. on the day of the examination.

Changing your appointment

If you wish to change the appointment date, the appointment may be delayed significantly.
Change your appointment, call 258-5000 or 258-4001 no later than 7 days before the examination date.
