Emergency Care
Emergency Medical Center Information
- After severity classification(KTAS) is completed, care at emergency department, care at relevant departments and care at infant urgent care are processed according to the result of the first medical examination.
- Depending on patients’ situations, necessary examinations and treatments are processed, and if the result indicates the patient need a specialized treatment, a joint treatment with a doctor at the relevant department is processed.
- According to the final judgement of medical office, completion of treatment, transfer or hospitalization is decided, and the priority order of all treatments is processed by the result of severity classification and the standard of critical patient classification.
Critical Patient Criteria
Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center is supposed to treat patients with critical symptoms and equivalent symptoms that are decided by the following laws as a local emergency medical center. Patients with critical symptoms that are not included in the ones decided by Article 2 of Emergency Medical Service Act can't be covered by insurance, and they have to pay the whole medical fees for emergency care.
Critical Symptoms
Neurological Symptoms
- Acute consciousness difficulty, acute neurological disorder, head injuries with nausea, consciousness difficulty, etc.
Cardiovascular symptoms
- Symptoms requiring CPR, acute dyspnea, acute chest pain caused by a cardiac disorder, palpitation, abnormalities of heart beat and shock.
Addiction and metabolic disorder
- Severe dehydration, overdose or addiction of drug, alcohol and other substances, acute metabolic disorder(hepatic insufficiency, renal insufficiency, diabetes, etc.)
Surgical Symptoms
- acute abdomen that requires abdominal section(only serious cases such as acute peritonitis, enterostenosis and acute pancreatitis), broad ambustion(over 18% of skin), penetrating wound, openㆍmultiple fracture or femoral shaft open fracture, injuries of blood vessel that have risk of dismemberment, symptoms that require emergency surgery under general anesthesia, multiple injuries
Hemorrhage
- Constant hemoptysis, bleeding with no hemostasis, acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage
Ophthalmological Symptoms
- Eye damages caused by chemicals, acute vision loss
Allergy
- Allergic reaction accompanied by face edema
Pediatric symptoms
- Infant spasmodic disorder
Psychiatric symptoms
- Mental disorders that could harm himself or herself, or other people
Symptoms equivalent to emergency symptoms
Neurological Symptoms
- consciousness difficulty, dizziness
Cardiovascular symptoms
- Dyspnea, hyperpnea
Surgical Symptoms
- Ambustion, overall abnormalities on abdomen including acute abdomen, fractureㆍinjuries or dislocation, other symptoms that require emergency surgery, dysuria
Hemorrhage
- injuries of blood vessel
Pediatric symptoms
- convulsion of children, high fever over 38℃(symptoms appearing in children under 8 years old when medical service is unavailable such as holidays and night)
Obstetric and gynecologic symptoms
- Childbirth or obstetric and gynecologic examination or treatment is needed due to sexual abuse
Emergency symptoms due to foreign substance
- Patients who need to remove foreign substances in the ears, eyes, nose, anus, etc.
Critical patient transfer process
In case a critical patient is transferred to another facility, in accordance with Article 4(1) of Enforcement Regulation of Emergency Medical Service Act, the transferring hospital ‘must confirm whether the transferred medical facility can accept the patient through Emergency Medical Information Center and must provide or recommend proper means of transportation’. Therefore, to check whether the transferred medical facility can accept the patient, the following procedures must be followed.
- When a patient wants to transfer to our hospital
- To check the patient's state and whether the patient can be accepted, the patient's current doctor should call the emergency center of our hospital at '053-258-6321', and confirm whether the patient can be transferred. If the patient comes to emergency room without this process, the patient may be re-transferred to the hospital that he or she was treated or another medical facility.
- When a patient is transferred from our hospital to a different hospital
- If the emergency center of our hospital is not able to provide care to a patient due to overpopulation, or the patient no longer requires inpatient treatment in a tertiary level medical facility the ER staff will provide information about other medical facilities in the area a patient’s residence that can provide proper medical care for convenience and continued treatment. The designated transfer coordinator of the ER will confirm the availability of other medical faciliteis and provide the patient/family with assistance in the transfer process.
